n a White House briefing on March 23, President Trump said he is extending the deadline for Americans to obtain REAL IDs to fly domestically. The new deadline is now October 1, 2021.
The reason for the extension, Trump explained, is to encourage social distancing amid the coronavirus pandemic and prevent a rush of people from going to the DMV to update their licenses. Also, many states’ DMVs have reduced or completely closed because of the pandemic.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA)’s dedicated REAL ID page is now updated with this new date but the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)’s dedicated page is not. With everything going on in the world right now, this is one thing Americans do not have to currently worry about.
